License plate brackets that cover any part of the readable message on a license plate are illegal. The plates must be maintained in a legible condition and displayed so that they can be seen and read. Replacement requests from anyone other than the registered owner must also provide an acceptable form of IDand a Permission Lettersigned by the registered owner(s) along with the owner’s acceptable form of ID.State law requires that when WisDOT issues two license plates, both plates must be attached to the vehicle one on the front and one on the rear. Please allow three weeks for processing and mail time. The sticker and/or plates are mailed to you.
